Peony or Paeonia is believed to take its name from two different stories based on Greek mythology. According to one of the stories, Paeon, uses an extact from peony root in order to heal Pluto who’s wounded in the battle. Asklepios who is jealous of his student’s medical success, kills Paeon. In the end of the story Zeus finds Paeon and converts her into Paeonia meaning a flower of Peony. In the other mythologic story Apollon falls in love with a fairy called Paeonia.Aphrodite who becomes ecstatic after she learned this, she converts Paeonia into a flower and thus Peony flower emerges.
